German custom yacht builder since 1875
Lürssen is a family-owned and family-operated German shipbuilder specialising in the design, engineering and construction of bespoke motor yachts. Friedrich Lürssen founded the company in 1875, and it has continued through four generations of the Lürssen family.
The yacht division works with owners, representatives, designers, naval architects, engineers and specialist suppliers to develop individually commissioned yachts. Each project is created around the owner's requirements rather than a standard production model.
Bespoke yacht construction
Lürssen undertakes custom yacht design, engineering, manufacture, construction, systems integration, testing and delivery.
Its shipyards are particularly associated with technically complex large-yacht projects requiring substantial engineering resources, specialist project management, covered construction facilities and large dock capacity.
The company combines its own engineering and shipbuilding expertise with independent yacht designers, interior designers, naval architects and specialist technical partners selected for each project.
Refit, repair and yacht support
Lürssen provides yacht refit, repair, restoration, conversion and scheduled maintenance services, including work on yachts originally constructed by other shipyards.
Its refit facilities can undertake substantial structural and technical projects and include extensive dry-dock, floating-dock and lifting capacity.
Lürssen also provides continuing technical support, spare-parts sourcing, repair coordination and worldwide deployment of specialists through its Fast Operations and Repair Unit.
Shipyards and operating network
Lürssen is headquartered in Bremen-Vegesack and operates six shipyards across northern Germany. Yacht construction, repair and modernisation activities are principally undertaken at facilities in Bremen, Rendsburg and Hamburg.
The wider operating network provides international sales, engineering, technical and shoreside support to yacht owners, representatives, captains and managers.
Engineering and innovation
Lürssen combines traditional German shipbuilding skills with modern engineering, manufacturing and systems-integration capabilities.
Its published research and development work includes propulsion technology, energy efficiency, emissions reduction, noise and vibration control, hybrid systems and fuel-cell technology.
