Overview

Genoa is a major Italian superyacht service, refit and marina centre, with deep yachting infrastructure around the old port and technical district.

This guide focuses on arrival notes, marina support and refit/repair context. The Genoa Superyacht Business Hub should be used for companies and local services.

Captain notes

Genoa should be treated as both a marina destination and a technical/refit centre. Captains should verify pilotage, VTS, mooring assistance, marina approach, berth allocation, yard access and contractor requirements before arrival.

Genoa Superyacht Hub publishes arrival guidance including Genoa pilots on VHF ch. 12, Genoa Traffic on VHF ch. 11 and marina assistance on VHF 71. It also states that yachts over 1,500 GRT or 70+ metres require a pilot onboard.

Marinas and berthing

Marina Molo Vecchio is located in Genoa’s old port area and is listed as accommodating yachts from 22 to 90 metres. Larger berthing and cruise/superyacht berths should be verified directly with the marina or agent before arrival.

Port authority

Genoa arrival notes should be verified with Genoa Traffic, pilots, mooring assistance, the marina and yacht agent. Published yachting guidance says Genoa Traffic should be called on VHF ch. 11 when approaching the port and that vessels should remain listening on VHF 16.

Customs and immigration

Italy is in the Schengen area, but yacht, crew, guest, customs, VAT, charter and non-EU procedures should be verified through official Italian sources or an experienced yacht agent before arrival.

Emergency contacts

Italy emergency numbers: European emergency number: 112. The Italian Coast Guard also publishes maritime emergency number 1530. Distress at sea should also use VHF channel 16 where appropriate.

Yacht crews should still confirm marina emergency procedures, access points and nearest medical facilities with the marina or yacht agent before use.

Doctors, hospitals and medical support

Hospital and medical-support details for Genoa have not yet been fully verified in this guide. Use 112 in an emergency, and confirm non-emergency medical facilities with the marina, yacht agent or crew medical provider.

VHF and radio notes

Published Genoa Superyacht Hub arrival information lists Genoa pilots on VHF ch. 12, mooring assistance on VHF ch. 10 for yachts over 500 GRT, Genoa Traffic on VHF ch. 11, listening watch on VHF 16, and marina assistance on VHF 71.

Captains must verify these channels before arrival with official port, marina or yacht-agent sources.

Bunkering

Bunkering arrangements should be verified through the marina, yacht agent or approved suppliers before operational use.

Provisioning

Genoa has strong technical, provisioning and service support. Specific suppliers should be selected from verified Superyacht Guide companies, Business Hub entries and current yacht-agent recommendations.

Crew notes

Genoa can support crew logistics during refit, maintenance and guest turnover. Crew access, transport, accommodation and contractor entry should be planned with the marina or yard.

Refit and repair

Amico & Co publishes large-yacht facilities in Genoa including use of dry-dock #2 in the port of Genoa. The published facility information states that dry-dock #2 can be used as two separate dry docks, accommodating two large yachts up to 90m LOA each, with total capacity of 200m LOA, 21m beam, 29.5m air draft and 7.5m draught.

Captains should verify current dry-dock availability, scope, contractor rules and booking requirements directly with the yard before planning work.

Security and safety

Yard access, controlled areas, hot-work rules, contractor security and port restrictions should be verified with the marina, shipyard or yacht agent before arrival.

Seasonal and weather notes

Genoa is relevant for year-round technical work and Mediterranean cruising. Weather, yard slots and Ligurian routing should be planned with current forecasts.

Local rules

Pilotage, VTS, mooring assistance and port movement rules may apply depending on vessel size and tonnage. Confirm all current requirements before arrival.
